Denise Roskopf
SHE WAS SITTING IN HER EASY CHAIR,READING HER MAGAZINE,
HE CAME HOME A DRINKING,HIS EYES A DIFFERENT GREEN..
SHE DIDN'T SPEAK ONE WORD,AFRAID OF THE CONSEQUENCE,
SHE KNEW WITH JUST A WHISPER,HIS FACE WOULD TURN TENSE...
IT DIDN'T REALLY MATTER,HE WAS IN THE MOOD,
ONCE A LOVING HUSBAND,NOW BEFORE HER STOOD,
A MONSTER...
HE GRABBED HER UP AND HIT HER,THREW HER TO THE FLOOR,
PICKED HER UP AND SLAPPED HER ONCE MORE...
SHE COULDN'T CATCH HER BREATH,THE TEARS JUST WOULDN'T DRY,
SHE TREID TO PUT HERSLF TOGETHER SHE DIDN'T WANT TO DIE..
IF SHE STAYED WITH HIM SHE WOULD NOT SURVIVE,
SO THE NEXT DAY WHEN HE AWOKE,
HE SAID HOW SORRY HE WAS,
BUT,NOT A WORD FROM HER WAS SPOKE..
HE WALKED OUT THE DOOR HAD TO MAKE THAT DOLLAR,
SHE SCURRIED TO PACK HER THINGS NOT HEARING HIM HOLLAR,
I LOVE YOU BABY.....
LOOKING AT THE PHOTO'S OF A HUSBAND AND HIS WIFE,
SHAKING HER HEAD,WONDERING"HOW DID I SURVIVE"?
ALL THESE YEARS ALL THIS PAIN,ALL THE DARKNESS
ONE THING STILL STRONG REMAINED,
SHE HAD HER FAITH..
AWAY SHE DROVE,NEVER LOOKING BEHIND,
THE REARVIEW MIRROR,NEVER CROSSED HER MIND..
SWEET SUNNY DAYS AFTER ALL THIS TIME,
LEAVING THE PAST AND A MAN SO BLIND..
SITTING ON THE BEACH BASKING IN THE SUNLIGHT,
BREATHING IN,BREATHING OUT,IT IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT....
